Scope and Content

Mark Twain's 1884 novel, here in the 1918 P.F. Collier & Son edition. Huck Finn flees his abusive father and travels down the Mississippi River with the runaway Jim, encountering the violence and hypocrisy of the antebellum South.

Why it Matters

The oldest item in the collection. A century-old printing of a foundational American novel; condition issues notwithstanding, the physical object is itself a primary document of early-twentieth-century mass-market publishing.
